Our Horses

At Etricor we have a herd of 19 horses, 16 of which are Norwegian fjords. This fantastic breed is very distinctive because of their beautiful looks and their gentle nature. Fjords can be used in all areas of horsemanship, riding, driving dressage and jumping. Traditionally they were used as working horses often in the logging trade to move the felled trees from the forest. Their stocky build and there strength and stamina make them very popular today with endurance riders.  Fjords still have the dorsal stripe down their backs this is because they are a very ancient breed and they have been kept quite pure. In some cases they also have zebra like stripes on their legs and of course they have the striking mane and tail in black and white.

At Etricor we follow as natural path as possible with the horses. They have 30 hectares to roam around with some very different types of terrain from open pasture to forest. None of our horses are shod but they do wear trainers when the do any road work. We do not put bits in their mouths; we ride with rope halters see www. getknottedropehalters.co.uk for more details. The horses at Etricor live in a herd situation and we only take the youngsters out into a sub herd when they are too old to be with their father, to avoid line breeding.
